Dr. Gurfein is an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Medicine at the University of California San Francisco. He received a Sc.B. in Neuroscience from Brown University, a Ph.D. in Neuroscience from Mount Sinai School of Medicine, and completed postdoctoral work at the University of California San Francisco, where he subsequently joined the research faculty.

In Dr. Gurfein’s academic work he has investigated the biological mechanisms of integrative practices and developed novel strategies for treating neurological disease. Along this research path, he has established himself as a NIH-funded principal investigator with several publications in high impact journals. Dr. Gurfein has a deep knowledge of the nutritional supplement research literature and has consulted for several companies developing both consumer wellness products and regulated treatments for chronic disease.
